Will Microsoft Launch the Xbox 360 in China ?
While Microsoft is anticipating hitting the 5 million mark with Xbox 360s by June, they are now looking at possibly launching the 360 in China. Since Microsoft is trying to be a “global” company, it’s hard to overlook 1,306,313,812 people even if China is a “very controlled environment.”
“We’re working with the government pretty actively in trying to understand what it is we need to do,” said Alan Bowman, general manager of entertainment and devices for Asia Pacific and Greater China. “We’re taking a very careful approach in China.”
Bowman said. “We’re going to make sure that we make the right moves, develop the right content, have the right partnerships in place. It’s not something you want to rush in and do.
If Microsoft can pull this one off, it’ll be a great day for the gaming industry, because it’ll probably open the door for other entertainment/gaming companies to do business in China.
It should be noted that Sony tried the same thing in 2002 but was unsuccessful.
