Video Games Industry Manpower Shortage

Video Games Industry Manpower Shortage

Are we looking at an industry that is poised to become self-sustaining, larger-than-life, moving pictures big? Or, is the entire industry teetering on a precipice due to the lack of quality hires? One high-ranking industry exec seems to think the gaming industry in Japan is, indeed, in trouble.
After a long sales slump, the gaming industry in Japan is faring quite better again in large part thanks to the booming portable market (DS and PSP). Despite the recent upturn, however, Wada is not pleased with the apparent lack of standards and shortage of technical experts in the industry. In …read more

Tony Hawk’s Next New Thing

Tony Hawk’s Next New Thing

Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam is set to release this fall, probably along with the Wii, but maybe a little sooner. It’s Nintendo-only with versions for the DS, the GBA and the Wii. Now I guess I have to buy a Wii (think my husband will believe that?)  Art and screens can be found here.

Indiana Jones 2007

Indiana Jones 2007

I’ll be covering this one a little more in-depth in the vidcast this week, but I wanted to give you a shot of Indi from the upcoming Indiana Jones 2007.

This one is next-gen only, being developed for the XBox 360 and the PS3 (sorry Wii) and scheduled for a 2007 launch.  I’m to play the demo later in the week.  Will let you know what I think as soon as possible.

Lego StarWars II – Screenshots

Lego StarWars II – Screenshots

I found some more screenshots from the upcoming Lego StarWars II.  They are categorized by the platform, with shots from the PS2, XBox, XBox 360, DS and the PSP, in addition to the PC version.  LucasArts will release the game sometime this fall.

Guild Wars Nightfall

Guild Wars Nightfall

Here’s some art for Guild Wars Nightfall.  I’m sure it will be as successful as Guild Wars and Guild Wars Factions.
In this third Guild Wars campaign, players must fight to hold back the night as a mad ruler attempts to free her outcast god and bring darkness to the continent of Elona. But they won’t fight alone. Guild Wars Nightfall introduces new customizable Heroes who level up, follow player instructions in combat, and use skills and equipment of the player’s choice. These Heroes will follow the player through savage coasts, ancient monuments, and poisonous deserts during an epic story that …read more

CJ Gibson Selling Gaming Hardware

CJ Gibson Selling Gaming Hardware

CJ Gibson was chosen to be the body of the G-Pad Pro Motion Sensing Gamepad campaign by e-Dimensional.  It just goes to show you that if you can’t come up with something clever or genuine to say about your product, you can take a beautiful girl and stick her in the ad to draw attention away from your product.
Of course, since their last campaign featured a playboy model and used the slogan “Vibration is Good”, I don’t expect more from the company.
