GameStop Releases Impressive Data
This week gaming retailer GameStop released its fiscal year numbers and they were impressive. The retailers revenue was up 72 percent over 2005 with total sales last year of $5.3 billion.
If you thought their overall numbers were impressive consider that they sold $2.3 billion in the fourth quarter alone showing signs that 2007 will likely be another impressive year for the chain as further releases hit next generation consoles and Wii sales continue to be strong.
Here’s a quote from Gamestop Chairman and CEO R. Richard Fontaine:
“While we are in the very early stages of another strong growth cycle, it is not a mirror of the past. In fact, our 2007 guidance is based on our belief that this cycle will be deeper, wider, and longer than any previous period of new console introductions. From the technology powerhouses of Xbox 360 and PS3, to the uniquely engaging ease of play and inventiveness of the Wii, to the portability of the DS Lite, to the value of the PS2, there is a product and a price range to stimulate the core and casual gamer, and attract new customers to the video game experience.”
I should note that I am not a big fan of GameStop based on personal experience but these numbers are pretty darn impressive.
