Know your publisher: what’s the latest on Ubisoft
Ubisoft reported its sales for the first fiscal quarter ended June 30, 2007. Sales for the first quarter of 2007-08 came to $183.83 million, up 90.5% compared with the $96.03 million recorded for the same period of 2006-07.
The French publisher expects second-quarter 2007-08 sales to remain stable at approximately $144 million. Ubisoft has raised its performance targets for 2007-08. Its 2007-08 sales target is now approximately a whopping $1.13 billion, and it expects current income before stock options to represent at least 9% of sales.
Ubisoft also announced that it will develop and publish the video game based on Twentieth Century Fox’s “Avatar,” (not the animated series) an upcoming film written and directed by James Cameron. The game is expected to release in conjunction with the movie’s planned opening in May 2009.
Let’s just hope it’s any good, unlike other movie-to-game adaptations.
According to Ubisoft, it was the number 3 independent publisher in the U.S. with market share of 6%; number 2 in Europe with 8.4% market share, number 2 in France with 7.9% market share; number 2 in the U.K. with 10% market share; and number 2 in Germany with 6.9% market share. The company achieved those shares during the first six calendar months of 2007.
