Mercenaries 2 Delayed to 2008
Rumors around the web have hinted that Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is being delayed until 2008. These rumors came about when everal online retailers moved the game’s ship date to the first quarter of next year. Mercenaries 2 publisher EA and the developer Pandemic have given no official comment until now. It’s official. Mercenaries 2 is being delayed. IGN spoke with Pandemic Studios’ President and Co-Founder Josh Resnick about the reasons for the delay and to see where development stands at this point.
IGN: So what’s the deal with Mercenaries 2? Online retailers have pushed the ship date to 2008. Is that the case, has the game been delayed?
Josh Resnick: Those dang sneaky retailers! You just can’t seem to keep a lid on something once they hear about it. I don’t know what kind of Internet genie those guys have in their back pockets, but I wish I knew him. I would ask him when Duke Nukem Forever is coming out, for starters.
But to answer your question: yes, indeed, the retailer genies have done it again, and I can officially confirm that Mercenaries 2 is set for release early next year — Q1 2008 to be more specific.
IGN: Why has Mercs 2 been delayed?
Resnick: The easy answer is that we wanted to time it more closely to the movie. But then we realized that we don’t have a movie, so we just said, “Aww hell, let’s just make the game better.”
It’s really that simple — we don’t want to slop out a game just to meet a deadline. Some companies rush products out to meet that big holiday deadline for the massive gift-giving season, and we would rather make sure that every corner of our vast, open-world, highly explosive gameplay is completely polished. We owe that to Mercenaries fans.
