2007 Yearly Japanese Sales Numbers

Last year the Japanese gaming market set another record with JPY 687.7 Billion ($6.3 billion) in sales. This figure is a ten percent increase over 2006. Ten games became million-sellers in 2007 — one more than in the previous year. Below are the best-selling games and hardware in Japan, as provided by Famitsu.

Best-selling Japanese console/handheld software for 2007:
1. Wii Sports (1,911,520 copies sold)
2. Monster Hunter Freedom 2 – PSP (1,489,898 copies sold)
3. Wii Play (1,487,484 copies sold)

Best-selling Japanese console/handheld hardware for 2007:
1. Nintendo DS Lite (7,130,228 units sold)
2. Wii (3,629,361 units sold)
3. PlayStation Portable (3,022,659 units sold)

Top Japanese publishers for 2007:
1. Nintendo (21,378,425 units of software sold; 36 titles in the top 100)
2. Square Enix (6,012,244 units of software sold; 12 titles in the top 100 including Dragon Quest IV and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker)
3. Capcom (3,576,945 units of software sold; 8 titles in the top 100 including Monster Hunter Freedom 2, Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice, and GTA: San Andreas)
