Paramount studio will be publishing its own game titles
It looks like the Paramount movie studio wants a slice of the lucrative videogame pie. An article on Variety reveals the movie studio will be publishing casual games based on its movie properties. Apparently, its first titles will be ready this year.
“”There’s going to be a slate where in some cases we’re publishing, in some cases we’re co-publishing, or in others we’re funding development and another publisher buys it,” said Sandi Isaacs, Paramount’s senior VP of interactive and mobile. “It’s important for us to have a flexible model.”
In the past Paramount has licensed its properties to other videogame publishers, and will continue to do so in some cases. The Variety article explains that studios want to be involved in publishing their own games in order to ensure their quality. In general, games based on movies receive pretty mediocre reviews.
“This gives us a great advantage in the timely evaluation of what’s in development and could become good games, as well as working with our talent from the early stages,” Isaacs noted.
Matt Candler has been named Paramount’s VP of interactive development. Both Candler and Isaacs previously worked at Activision. Luke Letizia, a former SEGA executive, is joining as executive director of interactive licensing. Paramount’s games will be housed under its Paramount Digital Entertainment unit.
