Nintendo denies new DS rumor

by Kiven on April 16th, 2008

Nintendo Japan has just flat out denied the possibility of a DS hardware revision for this year’s E3. Read that again…slowly. For this year’s E3. Remember that Nintendo is a company with a penchant for re-re-re-releasing hardware and software that becomes successful in the market. So it might not be this year’s E3 but anybody wanna bet that it’s coming down the road?

IGN says: “In response to an inquiry from Japan’s Yukan Fuji website about recent comments from Enterbrain president Hirokazu Hamamura regarding a possible redesign for the portable, Nintendo Japan’s head of PR said, “We cannot comment on the specifics of what will be announced at E3, but at the very least there won’t be anything like what Mr. Hamamura suggested, so would like to clearly deny this. We’re having a hard time understanding what kind of evidence [Mr. Hamamura] had for saying this.”

According to a Bloomberg report, Hamamura mentioned during a seminar on the 11th that, looking at historical context, it was possible that we would see a hardare revision for the DS at E3. Nintendo’s PR department initially responded to Bloomberg by saying “At the present we cannot say anything.”

The 2008 edition of Hamamura’s annual seminar was presented to investors and mainstream press.
