Capcom releases Franchise sales figures
As part of Capcom’s recent financial results, the company has unveiled its current sales numbers for all of its beloved franchises and individual titles, dating back over the past 22 years. The popular Resident Evil series seems to be the top choice with more than 34 million units sold, trumping both classic series’ Mega Man and Street Fighter (second and third on the list, respectively).

Capcom looking to make Hollywood Movies
May 23 (Bloomberg) — Capcom Co., publisher of the “Resident Evil” video-game series, is in talks with Hollywood studios to jointly produce movies based on its software, President Haruhiro Tsujimoto said.
“We are in the process of working out contracts for several offers we received at the Cannes Film Festival last week and hope to make an announcement soon,” Tsujimoto said in a Bloomberg Television interview broadcast today, declining to provide specifics. “If realized, the projects will have a big impact on the game and movie industries.”

id Software leaves the ESA
id Software has confirmed it has left the Entertainment Software Association, joining a growing list of recent departures that includes Activision, Vivendi and LucasArts.
The publisher departures follow decisions made by the ESA board surrounding last year’s E3 move to Santa Monica that ultimately cost the association $5 million and necessitated raising its membership dues, as Kotaku reported earlier this week.

Over in Japan, a new Pokemon for the Nintendo DS has just been unveiled. Titled Pokemon: Platinum, it looks like this new edition is an expansion rather than a full blown sequel to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. But fret not, as this will surely be brought over to the States.
