Activison to Overhaul Tony Hawk
Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith confirmed the development of two new Tony Hawk games during Activision’s quarterly earnings conference on Thursday. The first Tony Hawk game, arriving this year, is exclusive to the Nintendo DS and will introduce “new technologies not seen on the DS.”
Griffith, not content with reinventing one version, also confirmed the second Tony Hawk game will “deliver the kind of breakthrough this franchise needs.” Although it is not known which platforms this second game will appear on, he added “for competitive reasons we’re not going to talk about it today but we’re very bullish on the kind of innovation this will bring, and this won’t be your father’s Tony Hawk.” The second Tony Hawk game is on schedule to release before Activision’s 2010 fiscal year ends, which before the upcoming Vivendi merger, usually lands on March 31 2009.
In addition to Tony Hawk announcements the new James Bond game, Quantum of Solace, was also confirmed to coincide with the movie release in Q3 of 2008. Bond fans might be happy to hear that the Treyarch-developed game will utilize the Call of Duty 4 engine and tools. Along with the Bond release date confirmation, Griffith said Spider-Man: Web of Shadows will make its holiday deadline and stated that Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 is on schedule to arrive sometime this year.
