Call of Duty: World at War announced
Treyarch has revealed details on Call of Duty: World at War, previously known as Call of Duty 5. Unlike Call of Duty 1, 2 and 4, which were developed by Infinity Ward, World at War is being developed by Treyarch, the developer of Call of Duty 3, and will return The FPS franchise to its WWII roots. Treyarch also revealed to the Official Xbox Magazine that the next Call of Duty will, for the first time, support 4 player co-op over Xbox Live.
I still dont get why do they need to get Treyarch when Infinity Ward just did a marvelous job with COD4. AND Why World War 2 Again? Isnt that war fought enough times digitally already? I’m still baffled…Treyarch better have learned from IW’s masterpiece if they even want to come near COD4’s sales stats.
After Activision announced the next Call of Duty will feature a new military theater last May, fans may be disappointed to hear that the series is going back to WWII. However, Activision is remaining true to its word by taking the franchise to territories in the Pacific, with players fighting the Japanese. Parts of the game will also take place in Berlin as the Russians advance in on the Germans.
While Infinity Ward isn’t developing Call of Duty: World at War, the FPS will still utilize Infinity Ward’s award-winning Call of Duty 4 engine. Treyarch has also recieved a full year of development time over its previous Call of Duty 3 release.
Although no specific dates or platform confirmations were made, Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith said last May that the next installment of Call of Duty would make its way over to the DS, PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 platforms before the end of the company’s 2009 fiscal year, which has typically ended on March 31.
