2K Games Announces Partnership with Digital Extremes

2K Games has announced today that it has signed an agreement with Digital Extremes to assist in the development of BioShock for the PS3. Bioshock for the PS3 is scheduled to be shipped to retailers in October 2008 with new features and content. This PPS3 system version of BioShock is being developed by 2K Marin, 2K Boston, 2K Australia and Digital Extremes.

It has been reported that the team behind Bioshock is behind the next X-Com game and i couldnt be happier. This isnt some news from left field as 2k bought the rights to the X-Com franchise in 2007. Who better to craft the next iteration of the turn based tactical alien invasion sim? Argh. I hope this is true.

Take-Two has announced the sequel to its huge hit BioShock at call to discuss its quarterly financial results. No details regarding the game were given However, Take-Two executives confirmed previous rumors that the Irrational Games team (now 2K Boston) would not be developing the sequel. Instead, 2K Marin has been tasked with creating the next in the BioShock franchise. 2K Boston’s Ken Levine will be involved in the sequel, however.

Next time you pop in your BioShock disc to do some recreational plasmids you’ll be greeted with a title update. Not to worry, publisher/developer 2K is apparently improving an already amazing experience. Major Nelson has the info on what the update includes. After the install you should find that overall game stability has been improved, particularly when loading an auto save. If any audio glitches were apparent while the title menu was loading, those should be taken care of, as well. And finally, enemy AI when using health stations has been “corrected.”

Irrational takes on the 2k name

Irrational Games has announced on the eve of Bioshock’s release that it will change the names of its development studios to 2K Boston and 2K Australia. Irrational, responsible for cult favorite System Shock 2 and Tribes: Vengeance, was purchased by 2K Games way back in 2006 and has since been developing BioShock out of its Boston and Canberra, Australia offices.
