If you buy an Xbox 360 before Dec. 21, Microsoft will send you a free copy of Halo 3, the company announced today. No BS. Ask Microsoft. According to the official Xbox web site, gamers who buy a new console between now and the deadline, sign up for a new Xbox Live account and register their systems with Microsoft will receive a copy of Halo 3 in their mailboxes.

Brian Jarrard, Bungie’s community and franchise director, recently spoke with GamesIndustry.biz about his company’s exodus from Microsoft control.
“To us, this just represents what we think is the next natural evolution of our relationship with Microsoft,” Jarrard said, noting that it had been in the works for a little while. He also brushed aside suggestions that the impetus for the divestment might have come from Microsoft thinking about bringing in a new developer on the Halo franchise.

Bungie officially splits with Microsoft

After nagging rumors behind the scenes since Halo 3 launched last week, Microsoft has officially announced that Bungie is embarking “on a path to become an independent company”, while the publishing giant will be retaining an equity interest in the developer. Looks like what we reported a few days ago was true.
However, the pair aren’t severing ties completely and the two will continue the long-standing publishing agreement between Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie for the Halo IP, as well as other future products by Bungie.
