World of Warcraft Russia Launched

Blizzard has announced the launch of World of Warcraft in Russia, with five new localised realms for the game and its expansion, The Burning Crusade.
Gamers in the region will be able to play the MMO in a fully regionalised form, including Russian language support and payment options for roubles. Russian players using a foreign copy can convert their account to the Russian version and transfer their characters to one of the new realms.

Flagship Studios has also put its other MMO, Mythos, on indefinite hold following reports that the company has laid off most of it’s staff and has shut down Hellgate London.

EA extends deadline on Take-Two offer

It look like EA really wants Take-Two badly. EA has just announced it has extended for a fifth time its unsolicited offer to acquire all of Take-Two’s outstanding shares untill August 18, 2008. The extension comes, as previously rumoured, after approximately 11,741,339 shares of Take-Two had been tendered in by the previous deadline of July 18, accounting for around 15 per cent of the total.
“Take-Two’s Board continues to be 100 per cent committed to maximising stockholder value and remains unanimous in continuing to recommend that our stockholders not tender their shares to EA,” responded Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two’s chairman.\

Rebellion acquires Razorworks

Rebellion has announced that it has acquired Empire Interactive’s former internal development studio, Razorworks, and it’s 30 staff will move across to Rebellion’s own Oxford set-up.
CEO Jason Kingsley revealed that Rebellion had been keeping tabs on the progress of Razorworks for two years, since the company’s previous acquisition from Empire of Strangelight: “We heard some very good things about the set-up, the team and their approach, which is very similar to our own,” he said. “So, when we had the opportunity to buy the studio, we seized it with both hands.”

During its E3 2008 press conference today, Electronic Arts (EA) announced a new partnership with famed shooter developer id Software. The publisher will be delivering Rage, the new IP id announced last summer.

2K Games Announces Partnership with Digital Extremes

2K Games has announced today that it has signed an agreement with Digital Extremes to assist in the development of BioShock for the PS3. Bioshock for the PS3 is scheduled to be shipped to retailers in October 2008 with new features and content. This PPS3 system version of BioShock is being developed by 2K Marin, 2K Boston, 2K Australia and Digital Extremes.

Codemasters Acquires F1 License

Codemasters today revealed it has acquired the Formula 1 licence, ending Sony’s four year ownership of the franchise and paving the way for a new series of current generation F1 titles across all major formats.

ZeniMax Media opens Tokyo office

ZeniMax Media Inc., the parent company of Oblivion developer Bethesda Softworks, today announced it has begun direct publishing operations in Asia with the establishment of its Tokyo-based subsidiary, ZeniMax Asia K.K. ZeniMax Asia will be publishing titles throughout Asian territories under the Bethesda Softworks brand.

Take-Two snubs newly revised EA offer

After Electronic Arts lowered its offer to acquire Take-Two from its original offer $26 per share to $25.74, Take-Two still has rejected the offer.
“[EA's proposal] undervalued the company at $26 per share, and it certainly undervalues Take-Two at $25.74,” chairman Strauss Zelnick, said in a statement Friday following the revised offer.
