If you buy an Xbox 360 before Dec. 21, Microsoft will send you a free copy of Halo 3, the company announced today. No BS. Ask Microsoft. According to the official Xbox web site, gamers who buy a new console between now and the deadline, sign up for a new Xbox Live account and register their systems with Microsoft will receive a copy of Halo 3 in their mailboxes.

Brian Jarrard, Bungie’s community and franchise director, recently spoke with GamesIndustry.biz about his company’s exodus from Microsoft control.

According to analyst Michael Pachter Halo 3s massive launch, planned for this September, could delay Grand Theft Auto IV. The news is not surprising as they had been scheduled to be release just weeks apart giving fans of both games little time to play Halo (or refund their wallet) before the next game went on sale.

According to Goldman-Sachs this falls Halo 3 blockbuster will finally make Microsoft’s Xbox division profitable. According to the report the first week of the release will boost their profits by $170 million, giving them a profitable quarter for the first time in its history. The figure may even be low by as much as $50 million giving them plenty of room for healthy profits.

This week Halo 3 Beta went live, albeit slightly delayed due to a technical glitch. Now that the Beta multiplayer is in the wild we are treated to videos comparing the graphics between Halos last hurrah (Halo 2) and the new Halo 3. Although the video is not of the highest quality (it’s YouTube, what could we expect) I think the biggest thing that this points out to me is that even though the graphics may not be that stellar, fans want the game because of the story and features, not because it looks sweet. Yesterday Microsoft announced that one of, if not the most highly anticipated game in history, Halo 3, will be released on September 25th. Not only is the game expected to sell by the millions (there were 4 million copies of the game preordered alone at last check) but it should sell more consoles, especially if it is coupled with a price drop.
