Guitar Hero: On Tour Sets Activision North American Retail Sales Record

Guitar Hero: On Tour Sets Activision North American Retail Sales Record

Looks like another hit for Activision, who has just announced that Guitar Hero: On Tour for the Nintendo DS has sold in excess of 300,000 units in North America in the first seven days since its launch, making it the largest North American launch for the Nintendo DSTM in the company’s history by more than a factor of eight. In addition, Guitar Hero: On Tour’s performance ranks it as one of Activision’s top 5 best-selling launches of any title on any platform in the company’s history. That’s big stuff and that goes to show how popular Guitar Hero is.

20 Million DS in Japan

20 Million DS in Japan

For the 5 of you adding up all the weekly sales figures, you were probably already aware of this, but for those who have normal lives: sales tracker Media Create announced today that the DS has crossed the twenty million mark in Japanese sales. The feat comes less than three years after the system’s 12/2/2004 release. Sales have been particular brisk since the release of the DS Lite, as prior to the redesign’s release in February 2006, the platform had just reached the six million mark.

S.PORT Adds More PSP Functionality

S.PORT Adds More PSP Functionality

With its broad mix of homebrew and true programs for the PSP it has become a multitasker by any means but this latest update is just plain cool. A new program called S.PORT will allow sports fans to check out highlights on their PSP.
The program will allow fans to see scores, replays, and stats from their games and other games around the league while the game is in progress.
Here’s a quote on the broad reach this could eventually have on the portable market and sports, especially in the U.S. and Europe:

“It could be used at any stadium around the UK, …read more

CartoonNetwork Racing

CartoonNetwork Racing

This is a new one for the DS and for the PS2. Screens for the DS and PS2 here.
Here’s a list of characters:
The Powerpuff Girls, Johnny Bravo, Dexter’s Laboratory, Cow and Chicken, Courage the Cowardly Dog and I.M. Weasel
The co-op modes sound rather fun as you can race head-to-head OR co-drive (in same car).  Choosing the wrong characters will cost you as each one has different strengths and weaknesses.
PS2 Coop Options:
· Single player game modes include Quick Race, Tournament and Cartoon Eliminator
· Multiplayer modes include Quick Race, Battle, Kart Kurling, Cartoon Eliminator, Toon Cup Collection, MINE MINE MINE, Bomb-Bastic and …read more

PSP 2?

PSP 2?

I saw on PlayDesigns that there may be a PSP 2 already in the works? (via)
One thing Sony really did well was create a beautiful handheld with amazing graphics.  However, the price tag is too high for the majority of their target.  Maybe when the PSP 2 comes out the price on the PSP will go down enough that I can afford it. Of course, with all the racism charges that lead to Sony’s pulling the latest PSP billboard, they may market this thing to death as well. LOL

T3’s Reader Choose the Xbox 360 As Their FAV Console

T3’s Reader Choose the Xbox 360 As Their FAV Console

XBox 360 Is the Favorite Console of T3 Readers
As an XBox 360 Fanboi I can agree, though I must say the competition was tight between the DS Lite and the PSP, as the 2 other candidates nominated.  I’m not sure the 360 is some technological marvel, as many say, they’ve just made very sure there is something to do on there, even right out of the box.  With LIVE!, the arcade and the backwards compatibility, you can use it even when you have no 360 games on hand.
The DS has widespread appeal and a small price point and offers up …read more

PSP Greatest Hits

PSP Greatest Hits

Sony’s releasing their top selling first party games for $19.
Ape Escape®: On the Loose, ATV Offroad Fury®: Blazin’ Trails, Hot Shots Golf®: Open Tee, Twisted Metal™: Head On, or Wipeout®Pure – for $19.99 SRP.
Later this year they’ll add these to the list:
“Greatest Hits,” including Lumines™, Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition, Star Wars Battlefront™ II, Tony Hawk’s Underground 2 Remix, and Untold Legends™: Brotherhood of the Blade™.
This is a good move for Sony.  Lumines is insanely popular still…   What are your thoughts on this statement here from the press release though?
With more than 5 million units sold, the PSP system …read more

Microsoft’s Argo

Microsoft’s Argo

Engadget has pics of the supposed handheld from Microsoft that’s ::booming voice:: DESTINED TO KILL THE iPod ::end booming voice:: mwah hah hah…
Yes, I know this is a gaming blog, but I couldn’t resist. And, you’ll probably be able to do some gaming on it, won’t you??? If not, maybe we can hack it with iPod linux
It certainly is a sweet looking device, very Apple-ish and white ala the Xbox 360. It will be quite a while before we hear more on this, but until then, you can dream… Oh, and if you …read more

Nintendo Releases New Super Mario Bros on the DS

Nintendo Releases New Super Mario Bros on the DS

Photo from here
Usually Nintendo releases new Super Mario Bros titles on their console. However, will sales of the DS EMBARRASSING the GameCube’s sales, it seems they’ve decided to showcase their latest Mario title on the popular handheld.
This latest version puts Mario and Luigi in a sort of old-skool, side-scolling game complete with flagpoles and a typical Bowser, albeit graphically updated to satisfy today’s gamers.
In typical Nintendo fashion, they’ve made it easy enough to play for a novice but with extras and irritating difficult levels/areas that will delight even the best players (3 star coins in each level). And, …read more
