Variety is saying that the first week of Grand Theft Auto 4 will come close to matching the biggest box office 6 day haul of $404 Million by Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. This will make Grand Theft Auto 4 the biggest debut for a videogame surpassing even the mighty Halo 3, which raked in $300 Million in sales in its first week.
When it comes to boffo openings, forget “Pirates of the Caribbean” — think “Grand Theft Auto IV.”

Rockstar Games will be expanding its digital distribution efforts by announcing that it has reached an agreement with Half Life developer Valve to offer its back catalog via the Steam PC download service. Titles planned for Steam availability include such acclaimed games in the Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne and Midnight Club series.
In December, Rockstar announced it would also offer digital downloads of its back catalog ofg games via IGN’s Direct2Drive service.

Manhunt 2 simply cannot escape controversy. Is it the name? the developer? the publisher? The latest snafu involves the former team at Rockstar Vienna, which apparently worked on the game for over two years and then weren’t given credit on the final product.
I’m interested to see what’s the official Rockstar stance on this….

Looks like its smooth sailing (relatively) for Rockstar’s Manhunt 2 from now on, as the game has finally been given a Mature rating in the US by the ESRB, clearing the way for an October release. I’m curious as to how much Rockstar has “watered down” the original content in order to release the game in a format acceptable by Sony and Microsoft on the 31st of October.

Today the official first Trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV hit the internet slowing some sites and bringing down others. I had about 10 posts I wanted to do tonight but for one reason or another my internet is at a crawl and is freezing left and right so it looks like I will just be doing a links post tomorrow to catch up on all the news and then I can post full stories later in the day.
