NCsoft Sees $5.9M Net Income This Quarter
NCsoft Corporation say they saw sales of $78.6 million in the second quarter of 2008, a seven percent increase over the previous year, though their operating profit, pre-tax profit and net income all dropped, 25%, 31%, 42%, respectively, according to the South Korean company’s second quarter financials released last night.
The news comes during a week of rumblings that NCsoft’s Austin office may be on the verge of laying off staff or closing, a rumor that NCsoft vehemently denies.

Activision Blizzard Announces Record June Quarter Stand-Alone Results for Activision
Activision Blizzard, Inc. , which was formed on July 9 as a result of the closing of Activision’s transaction with Vivendi S.A., today announced record stand-alone June quarter financial results for Activision, Inc.
For the quarter ended June 30, 2008, Activision’s stand-alone net revenues were $654.2 million, a 32% increase, as compared to net revenues of $495.5 million reported for the June quarter last fiscal year. Age of Conan dominates PC sales charts
Eidos and Funcom have announced that their blockbuster MMO Age of Conan continues to dominate the PC sales charts in all markets where the game is available. Over the last few weeks the game has remained the overall #1 PC game in most European markets, whilst also performing tremendously well on several all-format charts. Spore Creature Creator rules weekly sales charts
Market research firm NPD has the week’s best-selling games. Topping the week is the debut of Maxis’ Spore Creature Creator, which shipped to retailers on June 17. Compared to May’s NPD numbers, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures has slipped from first to third. At number two is The Sims 2 Double Deluxe, which continues to hold on to the position. Returning to the top 10 is Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare at number 9. The FPS is followed by Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, which rounds out the top 10.

Xbox 360 hits 5 Million in Europe
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has hit the 5 million mark in Europe thereby putting it ahead of the PlayStation 3 by some three quarters of a million according to tub-thumping comments from Microsoft’s European VP of strategic marketing David Gosen.
Gosen, who made his name in a five year tenure at Nintendo that saw the launch of the GameCube, told trade website MCV, “Anyone trying to call a winner this Christmas is calling too early.”

Age of Conan reigns in Germany and Sweden
Age of Conan has flexed its muscled in Sweden and Germany and outsold erstwhile leader Grand Theft Auto 4. It looks like those 400K players who reportedly are playing the game helped a bit. Age of Conan is an MMORPG that allows gamers to fight and adventure through the fictional lands of the Hyborian Kingdoms, created by author Rober E. Howard.

Capcom releases Franchise sales figures
As part of Capcom’s recent financial results, the company has unveiled its current sales numbers for all of its beloved franchises and individual titles, dating back over the past 22 years. The popular Resident Evil series seems to be the top choice with more than 34 million units sold, trumping both classic series’ Mega Man and Street Fighter (second and third on the list, respectively).
The numbers essentially speak for themselves, so take a look.
