Sony Profits Surge, But PlayStation 3 pulls it back down

Sony has recently announced rebounding profits of 73.7 billion yen ($645 million) for the July-September quarter, thanks to increased sales of TVs, PCs, and cameras, with 1.31 million PlayStation 3s sold, but the game unit’s losses are widening due to the cost of PS3 hardware and its inability to sell enough units. Sony’s game segment (the SCE division), sales did increase 42.9% year-on-year, primarily as a result of the contribution to sales of the PlayStation 3. However, an operating loss of 96.7 billion yen ($841 million) was recorded, significantly larger than the previous year.

PSP Redesign Coming

After rumoms about the PSP went from redesign, to no redesign, to redesign again we held off reporting the news until we knew what what was happening. Kotaku is now reporting that a PSP2 will be coming. E3 is being guessed as the location for the announcement of the redesigned console which is said to boast such features as:

Faster load times
Improved buttons
8GB of internal flash memory
Possible touch-screen and camera

VGXPO Touted As The Anti-E3

VGXPO Touted As The Anti-E3

“It’s time for a show that’s about games and the people who play them, and not just a giant party where everyone’s showing off their best pre-rendered video and earning kudos for best booth babes,” offered game industry veteran Bill Kunkel. “It’s time for an event where the smallest developers are considered just as important as the big publishers, and both groups get to show their wares directly to consumers and receive direct feedback from those same consumers. In short, it’s time for a show like VGXPO.”
Gamers at VGXPO will play games and give feedback as to how the games …read more

PSP 2?

PSP 2?

I saw on PlayDesigns that there may be a PSP 2 already in the works? (via)
One thing Sony really did well was create a beautiful handheld with amazing graphics.  However, the price tag is too high for the majority of their target.  Maybe when the PSP 2 comes out the price on the PSP will go down enough that I can afford it. Of course, with all the racism charges that lead to Sony’s pulling the latest PSP billboard, they may market this thing to death as well. LOL
